"Tar Baby" 36" x 24" gouache painting on paper, adhered to oil painting on canvas of horse and rider

"Tar Baby" is an unfortunate name, but a necessary one.  This painting is of my dad as a kid, on a horse given to him by his parents.  Idyllic, right? Not so much. ;)) 

They purchased the horse from a "friend" and neighbor, and the sweet beast came to them with the name, "Tar Baby".  I had to look up the definition, and Tar Baby defined is, " A difficult problem that is only aggravated by attempts to solve it."  

According to my dad, Tar Baby lived up to his name.  Still endearing nonetheless, and haven't we all had a "Tar Baby" in our lives at one point or another.
